Fabric Glossary


Technical terminology can be somewhat daunting, which is why we have developed an easy to understand fabric glossary. Learn more about what went into the making of your favourite looks!

CHIFFON
Chiffon is a gossamer or gauze-like fabric that is known for its sheer, floating, and shimmery nature, almost like tissue paper. Sheer. Chiffon-fabric has a sheer, transparent appearance, and when held under a magnifying glass, it looks like a fine net or mesh.

LAWN
Lawn cloth or lawn is a fine plain weave textile, now chiefly of cotton. Terms also used include batiste and nainsook.Lawn is designed using fine, high-thread-count yarns, which results in a silky, untextured feel. The fabric is made using either combed or carded yarns.

COTTON
Cotton is a soft, fluffy staple fiber that grows in a boll, or protective case, around the seeds of the cotton plants of the genus Gossypium in the mallow family Malvaceae. The fiber is almost pure cellulose. The fiber is most often spun into yarn or thread and used to make a soft, breathable textile.

GRIP

The cloth comprises of special and exclusive microfiber which makes it incredibly soft and gives it good breathability. The cotton blended fabric has a soft feel. The color palette of Karandi consists of pastel colors.

KHADDAR
Khaddar is a term for handspun and hand-woven cloth from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan primarily made out of cotton. The raw materials may sometimes also include silk, or wool, which are all spun into yarn on a spinning wheel called a charkha. It is a versatile fabric, cool in summer and warm in winter.

NET
Net or netting is any textile in which the yarns are fused, looped or knotted at their intersections, resulting in a fabric with open spaces between the yarns. Depending on the type of yarn or filament that is used to make up the textile, its characteristics can vary from durable to not durable.

ORGANZA
Organza is a lightweight, sheer, plain-woven fabric that was originally made from silk. The material can also be made from synthetic fibers, primarily polyester and nylon.

PLAIN CHIFFON
Chiffon is a lightweight plain-woven fabric with mesh like weave that gives it transparent appearance. The word Chiffon has a French origin which means a cloth. It is primarily made from cotton, silk or synthetic fibers like nylon, rayon and polyester. Chiffon is most commonly used to weave Sarees, Dresses and Scarves.

PRINTED KHADDAR

SILK
The strongest natural protein fibre composed mainly of Fibroin, silk is a shimmering textile known for its satin texture and famous for being a luxurious fabric. The most common silk is produced from silkworms, small creatures which mostly live on mulberry leaves.

WOOL
Wool is a comfortable and versatile fabric, warm in the winter and cool in the sumer. ... Two distinct types of wool fabrics are made - woolens and worsteds. Woolens are woven from woolen yarns, while worsteds are made from worsted yarns. Woolens are soft, fuzzy and may have a rough texture.
